Related to this, I have always wondered why Garmin called the app Web Updater, since it is an installed client based app and not browser based ... Since it has been over a year and Garmin has given us no indication that they intend to fix this, I do not look for any additional software updates on this series. go figure It is nice to see that Garmin is still supporting the long retired 7x0 series. For a change, I think I'll sit back a while before using Web Updater to get this update given the past history with 5.1 and 5.3. Downloading and transferring update to Nuvi via Web Updater 2. But then, Garmin has surprised us in the past by bringing out an update for a long discontinued model ... I wish they were a little more active with the 7x5 series too. I certainly hope that folks that do this update will report back over the next month or so with a report on how it's behaving on their nuvi 7x0. Updating process went OK, nuvi restarted and seem to be working fine. After a set of solid cursing I removed SD card which holds my US map. Then I put SD card in again and it's still working. For a change, I think I'll sit back a while before using Web Updater to get this update given the past history with 5.1 and 5.3. Nuvi after disconnecting from computer is doing restart on its own and installing update 3. But after I removed SD card and turn it on it was fine again. Still a few crashes occurring with my 765T that I would love to see resolved. Than I shut id down and try to turn on again and... Note: SD card was installed in nuvi during all update process. I certainly hope that folks that do this update will report back over the next month or so with a report on how it's behaving on their nuvi 7x0. After update is installed Nuvi reboots again and you get normal "working" screen. But when I shut down Nuvi with power button and then turn it on again I get no reaction from Nuvi at all. So it is now downloaded on this machine and is acknowledging a 5.40 update which I am doing now....It took on my unit and we will see in a few weeks if everything is back to OK. I have NOT followed through with the actual install so I can't comment on if the firmware update is actually installed to the unit.

The current 4.40 version of the 7x5 software is pretty stable. I thought I was updating Basecamp & I updated my 760 by not reading the messages that popped up. It might lessen the cost of developing and maintaining multi-platform applications. But when I shut down Nuvi with power button and then turn it on again I get no reaction from Nuvi at all. The only significant problem I have heard about is that the Language Guide app is broken and this affects only a small handful of people who have the paid subscription version of the Language Guide. I've only driven about 15 miles so far, but I'm optimistic. Since Updating I am experiencing the problem where after about 3 weeks my unit locks up. Garmin does not acknowledge that there is a firmware 5.30 It shows the firmware going from 4.90. Also if I go to my Dashboard and try to update to 5.40 It tells me my system is up to date. Plain as day my Garmin Nuvi 760 has firmware version 5.30 which was updated through dashboard.About 2 months ago I updates my lifetime maps to 2013.10. If I do a User data delete then everything is fine for another 2-3 weeks. All along I have suspected that there was a problem with the trip flog filling up. And the first fix is: Fixed an error that caused devices with lengthy trip logs to shut down. Now they don't acknowledge that update on dashboard and it won't let me update to 5.40? I am going to look into that right after I am done here. Shutech If you use Garmin's Webupdater software, which is always better to use than my Dashboard anyway, it will show that 5.40 is available on your 760.
