Difference between rowediting and rowupdating in gridview

A common way to use these collections is to HTML-encode the values supplied by the user before they are stored in the data source. event is raised when a row's Edit button is clicked, but before the Grid View control enters edit mode.event is raised when a row's Update button is clicked, but before the Grid View control updates the row.

One note will be helpful for you, while describing Columns in Grid View if you are using a boundfield then create objects of the control using cells[index] in the rowupdateing event of Grid View, but if you are using controls itself like Label or textboxes etc then use Fincontrol("stringid").The Repeater control : you will find that it provides a flexible layout but it doesn't support data grouping ,inserting, deleting , updating and paging through the data .The Repeater and Grid View controls are used differently. With that said there is no reason other than display purposes to keep the DIV region but would be interesting to know how to get the DIV to do the same function. This works on the main pages scroll but not on the DIV scroll region.
